All month I have been toying with the idea of doing a calendar project inspired by my favourite variety show (Sekai no Hate Made ItteQ!), in which they take a photo every month for a calendar they sell at the end of the year. I won’t be going on adventures all over the world like they do, but I like the basic idea. Of course I couldn’t make up my mind until today, so I have basically missed out on January… but I’ll still head out in the dark and try to top my favourite winter shot (Frosted Tips). Now off I go — hopefully this works out!
Portraits can be really awkward sometimes, at least for me. Some may call that a weakness, but I disagree. I think some of the best natural moments come after an awkward one. And of course, a funny outtake can turn the day around.
Awkward before moment (sorry, bro):
And then there are just plain silly moments like this one:
Sorry these are so tiny — not really sure what’s going on there
Hey readers! Sorry it’s been so long — I haven’t felt like doing much lately and kept putting off my return to blogging. I think I’ve mentioned before that I go through phases where I don’t want to touch my camera, edit, or even turn on the computer. I guess you could say I’m slowly coming out of a funk like that. Last weekend I did some outdoor photos for my brother and his girlfriend — the first time I’ve ever done outdoor portraits in winter! I admit, I had to force myself to do it and even now I have to force myself to edit. As bad as that may seem, I think it’s a good sign. Just the fact that I have been able to force myself means I will be ok. The truth is that I see myself as a no-talent fake most of the time. I’ve had to remind myself that some (like you awesome people following this blog) disagree with me. For that I want to thank you. I can keep trying (and improving… hopefully), because of reminders like that. And even though my progress is slow and I’m always up and down, I can honestly say I will not give up. Honto ni arigatou gozaimasu. I won’t be back until 2014, but I wanted to say Happy Holidays and show you what I’ve been working on this week ^-^
In other news, Redbubble.com now has Samsung Galaxy cases (snap and tough cases for S3 and S4). I personally like the look of them better than the Apple cases — they compliment my photos well! You can check them out here: http://ashleyloseth.redbubble.com. My sister ordered the Moraine Lake tough case for S3 and I can’t wait to see it in person ^-^
Again, Happy Holidays!
See you in 2014!
There’s something about sunbeams that are so uplifting! I was about to walk by this alley when I looked over and saw how gorgeous it actually was. And yes, I have a weird attraction to alleys when I’m out taking pictures! There’s this bizarre balance of lovely and grungy. They’re not great photos, but I like them anyway. 🙂
And a sunny sunflower for good measure! 😀
My photos are piling up, but I’ve decided to repost today. The main reason: my eyes are killing me! I should make an appointment to get them checked out, because I seriously need glasses. I’m sorry to my regular readers! I know my blog has been less than interesting for quite some time. I should also apologize to my sister for my very slow progress with Freyja’s photos, I will buckle down this weekend, I swear! I could rattle off more excuses, but I won’t bother you with my mundane problems any further. How about an oldie for today?
I feel like carving a pumpkin, so I chose this to tide me over for a little longer ^-^
P.S.- Happy Thanksgiving weekend to my fellow Canadians! I just might post a Thanksgiving worthy recipe tomorrow — what do you think? Interested?
Two weeks ago my sister had her baby very early. His name is Oliver “Ollie” Laine Lawrence and he was somewhere around 2lbs. (no pictures yet). It was a bit hush-hush for a little while and obviously pretty nerve-wracking. My other sister in Calgary came to visit right away, bringing Haakon and Freyja with her. I mentioned a couple of times that the past weeks have been crazy — can you believe this was only half of it? At least the kids kept me amused while everything else was… just what it was…
Freyja is quite the fussy baby, but she seemed to like me so that’s good! Near the end of the week , my sister mentioned viking photos to match Haakon’s. I wished I’d heard of it sooner, but still managed to pull together a last-minute photo shoot with the help of my crafty mother, Shea and my new studio lights (which I LOVE, by the way). To set these apart from Odin and Haakon’s, we made a yarn wig fit for a baby! I also ventured out to buy some faux fur for a cozy diaper cover, sewn by my mom 🙂 Here’s a little sneak-peek from the shoot…
She loved the braids! I worried she would freak out, but she actually seemed cozy. Isn’t she cute?
The other day I had to bribe Odin to let me take his picture. I said something like, “if you let me take a picture of you and your awesome t-shirt, Auntie* will let you take pictures too.” His reaction: “Uh huh! I did!!” …In other words; DEAL!! Aurora joined in and they each chose a subject — Abu and a dolphin air freshener…
All I did was help hold the camera and instruct them on what to do. The rest is all them. I didn’t do any editing either, I’m too impressed to mess with them! Pretty good for toddlers, don’t you think? 🙂
*Yes, I tend to refer to myself in the third person when talking to Odin. It’s how we roll.
Well I had much bigger plans for today, but I let a measly headache hold me back. You could say I’m a little angry with myself. I guess it’s another oldie today… I’m going to go waaaay back for this one…
I took this for my photography class back in grade 12. Sometimes I really miss that little studio setup!

This shot is growing on me.
I kind of wished I had my camera while walking to work today — I noticed so many lovely things. But I don’t have a locker and there’s no way I’d leave it unattended. I really need to go on another photo walk before Summer ends… I swear I’ll get around to it soon!! Today’s sights have inspired me ^-^d
Aurora and I were bored the other day, so I experimented with her hair a bit. I’d never seen her with a pony tail and it turned out to be so cute, I had to snap a couple of pictures ^-^
You can’t tell from this picture, but it was one of those anime pony tails that sticks way out. Too cute!
