I’ll never forget the day Hana became mine. She was so small, so shy, so amazing. I originally named her Mae (which I probably would have changed to Mei at some point), but it only lasted a few minutes — or maybe seconds. It dawned on me that she was a Hana (at the time, The English Patient was fresh in my mind and Hana was the greatest character ever written). This is the Hana I met that day…

Sometimes I miss this tiny version of my dog — particularly those dark spots!

She had the cutest little puppy bum!!

Fact of the day: hana is the Japanese word for flower and when pronounced slightly differently, it is the word for nose.
